Wow, irony. War is probably the only situation in which lives can be saved by having bigger guns.

I think you missed the point that abandoning the 1911 in the first place was a huge mistake, one that even the United States military admits now years later.

The two incidents are probably unrelated. The people at the top of the chain of command have many reasons for searching for a replacement.

The fact that the the round has low penetration is just one of their justifications.

Quite frankly, I find it's ironic that the US adopted the 1911/.45 ACP cartridge because their prior round, the .38, was much to under powered for their tastes. Then in the '80s they replaced it with a 9mm, which is wildly underpowered compared to the .45ACP cartridge.

Are you talking about the 5.56 or .45?

If your talkinga bout 5.56 your WAYYYY WRONG.
If your talking about .45acp...it has knock down power...which means when you shoot someone the go down....when you shoot someone with a 9mm they keep coming...because it goes right through (unless of course you get an instant kill)

It's capabilities will add a lot to the game.

It's actually not just an M16. It's a completely different assault rifle. It has 5 times the power of an M16 or an M4.

Wrong, accordingt o this, the big bulky scope on the top is actually a combination of a ballistic computer (that coordinates the detonation of the smart shells fired from the grenade launcher), laser range finder, and a thermal image, and finally a compass.

It's clear, that such a flexible weapon would be awesome to use. besides, it would really help to differenciate the scopes. I mean, you've got your aimposts, iron sights, rifle scopes, and then your all in one mega scope. :)

It's a smart weapon and that's something that's never been seen in a game before.

Watch the video.

:O god damn we need that GUN!! its great and looks to be interesting.
Lol can find enemy anywhere, lets just say that the "Talibans"
or Jihadists or lets just say arabians? lol anyway they know the place like their own pockets! its not hard for them to make soldiers career a totall hell!
anyway I bet that gun is gonna change the way...

Maybe there would have to be a server side option to disable OICWs becasue they are so powerful.

Yeah.......... Have you even fired a m4 besides in a video game? Have you ever talked to some one who has fired one in real life? Judging by all your other posts I dont see why you even bother posting about weapons when you know very little about them.

However, we could very safely assume that he's never fired anything larger than a .22LR.

i would have to say that the oicw is not a single weapon, mostly a combination of concepts which will be introduced slowly to weapons.
that being said, i would not include this gun for several reasons.
a) shooting around corners and other gadgets of the rifle: ive heard many people say that they dont want this game to be like a graw or a GoW in that people can stay behind cover and just mow ppl down. i have to agree with this, and the around corner shooting of the rifle would be both unfair and difficult to implement in a dedicated fps game
b) limited use: the rifle was really a strictly us military weapon, very few were made, and it was a prototype. this being said, the odds of anyone getting the weapon are slim to none.
c) speculation: most of the guns in this game if not all have been test-fired consistently so that the gun can accurately be represented in game. i seriously seriously seriously doubt that anyone outside of the us military has been able to fire it, even our own DEV team. so we would have to speculate lots of details, which doesnt fit in with the fact nature of the game.
i do think that this gun would have been cool to use, but i dont think it belongs here
btw, this gun has been featured in part in past games, the earliest i remember being the original ghost recon. however, that was the bare bones model, none of the fancy optics.

wait.... Fear was banned? y? who can i rant against now?
i have no purpose now... :(

Very good point about the speculation of ballistics, as it doesn't fit in with the concept of the game.

I feel your pain. :)
