not a straw purchase, his friend has a federal firearms license, he bought it for his dad, and fathers are allowed to buy guns as gifts for their underage kids.

totally legal.

NY is worse in some ways,CA is the worst, but i think you still have gunshows.

plus there are gunshows in the other states around like PA,CT etc.

there's one in marlboro MA on the 27th and 28th.

can you get a picture of it?

33 ould be a lot of things, the tag has nothign to do with the production date of the gun, it is put there by the soldier who last carried it, it has his name rank town, age etc on it, its a really cool bit of history to be able to know who carried the rifle you own.

even better, many of these guys are still alive, most are around the age or a little younger than our WWII vets, many people have contact them and written back and forth.

i havent tried to do that yet, but mine does have a tag.

very nice buy though, these k31's are awesome rifles at an amazing price.

The tag indicates the DOB of the soldier, name, unit, and residence. I used this site a couple of years ago when the K31 first came out.

http://www.swissrifles.com/sr/tags/

If you want a manufacture date, here it is.

http://www.radix.net/~bbrown/schmidt_rubin.html#manufacture

Three years ago when they hit the shores, $79 got you an excellent condition one. Wish I got more then one.

ya the prices are really going up.

i got mine, in walnut for $90.

even at $100+ these are an amazing deal, especially when you compare it to others guns production numbers, there were only about 100,000 k31's made yet we buy them for half what some guns which had many times that amount made cost.
