Yeah i'd love to see part of the game based in the Vietnam War, but I know its a touchy subject in the U.S, so i'm not sure if it'll happen.

It's not really a touchy subject in games, It's almost as comman as WW2 games, I don't see why it wouldn't be in if they wanted to cover major conflicts.

its not a touchy subject, we've got tons of nam games.

if anything, its less touchy then other modern wars.

But why are all Vietnam games subpar?

For its time Battlefield Vietnam was the best.

Vietcong was a million times better than BF Vietnam, which was just a lame arcade shooter.

Isn't Vietkong the one where you could do it with Vietnamese prostitutes?

That was Vietcong 2. Unfortunately it was no where near as well received as the first one due to the publishers making the developers rush the game out before it was ready. Hopefully this game won't get publishers like that!

Agreed. Original Vietcong was good game despite some problems how game was running on certain systems. It is still (IMO) the best Vietnam era game out there. Shame they messed it up with sequel.
My favorite about Vietcong was weapon sights and great SP campaign.

Maybe you do but I find they are much more interesting than urban maps, which tend to be very linear and have a only a few ways you can go.

haha, wtf? Vietnam is not a touchy subject. Always interesting seeing a non-US view on what the US supposedly thinks...

Some jungle warfare would be fun. Throw some Korean war stuff in there too. Both of the proxy red wars.

When Vietcong was first released (before BF Vietnam) alot of companies in the US wouldn't stock it, thats why i'm saying touchy subject. Plus the game was a 18 certificate in Europe but in the U.S Wallmart refused to stock it, so the developers had to release a 'teen' version with all the swearing and gore removed. Also with Vietcong 2 they wanted to have a campaign following a vietcong soldier but weren't allowed to have him shooting U.S troops so he had to fight against the ARVN.

So its not something i've imade up.

vietcong was everywhere here on release day, dunno where you got that info, i saw it everywhere and picked it up myself on the day it was released.

it is true we got a toned down version here, walmart did not specifically refuse to carry it, they have a general policy against mature rated games, though some still carry mature games anyway, my local walmart carried all the GTA games.

as for the last bit, what do you mean by "not allowed"?

there is no law or regulation against showing US soldiers get shot in a video game, there is no restriction on what is allowed in a video game in the US.

if they decided to not show soldiers getting shot it was their own decision.

It was the decision of their US publishers who were getting leaned on by someone else.

Vietcong may have been released in the U.S but like I said it was a 'teen' version as alot of U.S shops refused to carry the mature version. I got this info straight from the horses mouth, the developers.

the mature version was never released here in the US, so i dont think anyone had a choice here.

aswell, the only US store that wont carry the mature games is walmart, they are the largest retailer in the world though so that does hold some weight.

not like i care much either way, gore or no it was a great game, i had alot of fun with it.
